TA Program Structure, Policies, and Procedures
- Application timeline: Applications are expected to open in Jan. 2023 and expected to close in March/April 2023. Please see website for more information.
- TA program structure: The program is run through a state level TAP office. The projects go through a competitive selection process with funds being distributed directly by the state TAP office.
- Who is eligible to apply: Local governments, regional transportation authorities, transit agencies, natural resource or public land agencies, schools, tribal governments, and any other local or regional governmental entity with responsibility for oversight of transportation and recreational trails.
- Application information: Application information can be found online.
- Application components: Description, maps/plans/photographs, evidence of eligibility, benefits of project, environmental review, budget and implementation schedule, legal and compliance certification, and proposed maintenance agreements.
- Selection criteria: The scoring sheet can be found online. If the project supports policy goals/local transportation plan, if it addresses safety, evidence of sponsor reaching project budget and match, public involvement, Montana Department of Transportation coordination, project independence/utility, and engineering discussion.

- Is there an advisory committee?: Yes.
- Advisory committee members: TA Program Manager, consultant design engineer, policy/program and performance analysis chief, transportation planner, maintenance division operations manager, traffic and safety engineer, civil rights bureau chief, and operations engineer.

- Project award maximum: None.
- Typical local match: Off-system projects outside of reservation lands will be required to provide a local match of 13.42 percent.
- Matching policies: Montana accepts in-kind match. However, public property donations cannot be used to match
