Trails deliver joy. Every year since 2013, we hold a big springtime celebration for America’s trails and invite everyone to join us.

I (Ron Griswell) show up in the world as an explorer on a journey to caring more about myself, my community and the environment.

RTC has been focused on building a nation connected by trails, spreading trails across the country to bring new potential to communities.

It has been described as a “tipping point,” “critical mass” and “milestone” achievement. Regardless of what it’s called, there’s no doubt that the proliferation of trail networks around the United States is significant.

In 2023, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Awarded 30 Trail Grants Totaling $348,000 to Support Equitable Trail Development and Community Programs.

I made the impulsive decision to embark on a journey to walk across the country solo and be the first Deaf man in America to do so.

To this day, I have had numerous visits to this trail, with my family, friends and other community members alongside me, biking, walking and hiking.

This inspired me to embark on one of the biggest adventures of my life: a 1,100-mile bike journey from my home in Chicago to New York City in time for Climate Week NYC

Unfortunately, runners can get injured for a variety of reasons—as I have learned from experience. To reduce this from happening for others, I wanted to share what I’ve learned from my education and from my own running journey.

Franco Harris, who died in December 2022 at the age of 72, became an important advocate for trails and cycling, in particular. And he did so as a member of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) Board of Directors from 1992 to 1997.
