Celebrate National Bike-to-Work Week/Day: This Friday, May 16, is National Bike-to-Work Day, and it's a perfect opportunity to celebrate the rewards of a two-wheeled commute. Everyone from first-time cyclists to road-savvy veterans will be joining in, and the best part is how fun and easy biking to work can be. So you don't have to take a back seat to this celebration—you can take your own bike seat!
This month, we put out a call for stories from supporters who use rail-trails as part of a "greener" commute. We've already received dozens of testimonials from folks around the country who've discovered the many payoffs of pedaling into the office and spending less time in a car for daily chores and trips (See the upcoming July 2008 eNews for the full list of responses. Some swear by the savings in time, gas and public transit; others wouldn't trade the fun, refreshing exercise to start their day, or the chance to explore local wildlife; still more love the neighborly connection with fellow travelers, and the sense of experiencing a community outside, in person and up close. Whatever their motivation, these bicycle commuters have found plenty of passion for pedaling as their transportation of choice.
