Hosted on the fourth Saturday of April, Celebrate Trails Day is an annual spring celebration of America’s trails. Started by Rails to Trails Conservancy in 2013, the celebration encourages people across the country to get outside and enjoy the nation’s exceptional trails and trail systems.
Celebrate Trails Day is more than a day outside. It’s an opportunity to experience and share the joy and impact of trails. The nation’s 41,000+ miles of multiuse trails on the ground nationwide lay the foundation for 150+ trail networks in development—giving us all plenty of places to get outside! These spaces bring incredible value to our everyday lives, contributing to the well-being of people, places and the planet.
How We Celebrated Trails
Around the country, our partners planned group rides, nature walks, family-friendly festivals, volunteer cleanups and other community events for Celebrate Trails Day. Explore how trails were celebrated around the country on April 27, 2024.

Big Celebration —Nationwide Impact
Trails make getting outdoors and around by foot, bike and wheelchair more accessible for everyone. These essential outdoor spaces give us the space to swap car trips for bike trips, reducing emissions and helping the environment; bring powerful economic opportunity to communities big, small and in between; and deliver health and happiness for so many people.
Since the celebration was launched in 2013, tens of thousands of people have been inspired to celebrate their local trails, and we’ve teamed up with hundreds of partners to plan more than 750 events and share resources that help people experience and feel welcome on the trail.
